AI Guidelines

Suffern Central School District has embraced the growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and has created a set of expectations and guidelines for our teachers to use in the classrooms.

Teachers are expected to provide direction on the use of AI on assignments using one of these designations:

Image of a stoplight (Red, Yellow, Green)

RED: AI tools are NOT permitted

YELLOW: Limited use of AI as indicated by the teacher

GREEN: Students are encouraged to use AI

Expectations for Students on the Use of AI Tools:

Students must:
  • Check that their use of AI is consistent with the teacher's expectation (stoplight analogy: red, yellow or green)

  • Do all work in Google drive using their school account. The assignment MUST show the revision history of the work. With teacher permission, the final product may appear in another application after all work has been completed in Google.

  • Be prepared to show their process, not just the final product. Students may be asked to share key decisions they made during the creation, editing, and final stages of the assignment and be able to show how/where/to what extent AI was used.

  • Properly cite the use of AI tools

  • Ask the teacher for permission/clarification as needed
